Dr. Annalisa Horton Veterinarian/Owner

Dr. Horton graduated from Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2001.  After several years of being an    associate veterinarian, she decided to purchase Oceana Veterinary Clinic in February of 2010 and in 2022 she purchased White Lake Animal Clinic.  Annalisa, who is originally from Shelby, is very thankful to be able to serve this community.  She lives in New Era with her husband, Jeremy, and three children, Natalie, Zach, and Audrey.  They have a Bernese Moutain Dog (Maggi), a Golden Retriever (Greta), and 2 cats (Yeti & Everest).  She spends a great deal of time with her family.  She also runs and hand quilts in her spare time. 

Dr. Emily Pluger Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Pluger joined the OVC in June of 2020 following her graduation from Michigan State University's College of Veterinary Medicine.  You may recognize Dr. Emily as she is a graduate of Shelby High School and spent several summers working at Oceana Veterinary Clinic during her college career.  Dr. Pluger, her husband Tim, daughter Mila, son Brooks, three dogs Ella, Mattie (pictured), Boone and three cats James P. Sullivan, Pumpkin and Mr. Tittles enjoy the lifestyle West Michigan brings. Outside of work, Dr. Pluger enjoys spending time with her family, camping and running.   

Dr. Allison Potter Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Potter joined our team in the summer of 2022. She attended the University Finland in Ohio where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science. After earning her bachelor’s degree, Dr. Potter was accepted at the University of Missouri where she earned her degree as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Potter is originally from Whitehall, and she decided to return to the area to practice. Dr. Potter enjoys spinning, weaving, reading, and spending time on the lake. She has a shih tzu, Nemo, and a cat, Bart.

Dr. Amber Shoberg Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Shoberg recently joined our team in the summer of 2024.  She is a graduate of The University of Illinois, College of Veterinary Medicine.  Dr. Shoberg chose veterinary medicine because she enjoys helping owners care for their beloved pets. Although not native to Michigan, Dr. Shoberg has always enjoyed the "west coast" of Michigan and all of the outdoor adventures it offers.  She has been a lifelong fan of beagles and has recently rescued a beagle named Crouton.

Fun Fact: Dr. Shoberg spent most of her childhood growing up in Ecuador and France!

 Melissa CVPM Practice Manager

Melissa brings over 25 years of small animal veterinary medicine experience to Oceana Veterinary Clinic.  Melissa enjoys many aspects of the veterinary field including dental health, patient care and client education.  She is also passionate about practice growth and development and earned her Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM) title in 2020.  When not at the office, Melissa spends time with her husband and 2 children as well as her pets Bindi (Australian Shepherd) and Gherkin (cat).  She and her family enjoy walking, camping and attending horse shows.
Fun Fact:  When a young teen, Melissa spent time shadowing farm calls with Dr. Brenda, from the well-known program "The Incredible Dr. Pohl"

 Jennifer Client Service Representative

You will see Jennifer smiling behind the front desk or hear her ready to assist you over the phone. Jennifer graduated from Michigan State University and has spent time in sales and interior design. Jennifer lives in New Era with her husband and has 2 sons, and a daughter. They also share their home with two rescued cats, a calico cat named Mazie and a dilute orange boy, named Tucker.  In Jennifer's spare time she enjoys scrapbooking, reading, walking or hiking, and decorating. Jennifer, originally from the east side of the state, loves living in West Michigan and believes it is a great place for families and their pets.

 Emily Client Service Representative

Emily joined our team in 2012 as our receptionist and veterinary assistant. She brought 6 1/2 years of experience in the veterinary field to our practice. She has a passion for taking care of people and values the relationships that she builds. Emily is originally from Hesperia and collects white cats (all rescues of course) and beagles (Mindy and Oscar). In her spare time Emily enjoys spending time with her husband & family, Jeeping,  camping, and crafting.

Rachel Client Service Representative

 Rachel joined our team in October 2022 as the newest Customer Service Representative.​​​​​​​​ Rachel and her husband recently added a Bernese Mountain Dog puppy to their household, which is keeping them very busy.  Rachel loves spending time with her husband and family. In her spare time, she enjoys walking or hiking, reading, antiquing, and decorating.

 Kim Client Service Representative

Kim is the smiling face that has been greeting you at the White Lake Animal Clinic office for several years.  Kim grew up on a local dairy farm and in her down time she enjoys attending her kids' sporting events, photography, crafting and visiting the local beaches.  She also shares her home with her cat, Gumdrop. 

Kasey Client Service Representative

Kasey joined our client service representative team October of 2022. Kasey has received a Associates in Business Administration. Kasey values learning, building growth, and helping others. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with friends, family and the outdoors! Kasey loves to be at the beach during the summer and downhill ski in the winter. Kasey recently rescued a loving cat with six toes on every paw named Josie.

Katie CNA, Client Service Representative

Katie joined the team November of 2022.  She brings several years of human medical experience with her.  Along with her customer service skills, she is a superb baker and keeps our team supplied with beautiful and delicious baked goods.  Katie enjoys her two pets, Prissy, her cat (pictured) and Pansy her Black Labrador.  In her free time Katie enjoys baking and crocheting. 

Fun Fact:  Katie makes the best baked goods! You never want to turn down a sweet treat made by Katie.

 Jessica LVT, CPDT-KA

Jessica is aLicensed Veterinary Technician. She graduated from Baker College's Veterinary Technology Program and brings 15+ years of veterinary and dog training experience with her. Jessica also leads our Puppy Preschool and Canine Basic Obedience Classes.  In 2020, Jessica passed the examination to become a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA).   Jessica previously worked at Bellwether, where she gained valuable experience in both routine and shelter medicine. Jessica is originally from Shelby and decided to bring her talents back to private practice. Jessica enjoys dog training/behavior, her family, and spending time at the beach.

 Madison Licensed Veterinary Technician

Madison graduated from Baker College's Veterinary Technology Program in 2019 and has been working as a technician for almost 4 years. Madison enjoys dentistry, assisting the veterinarians in surgery, microscopy, and radiology. Madison a son named Carter and a horse named Champ. During her free time, she enjoys horseback riding, being outside and being active with my son.

 Sammi Licensed Veterinary Technician

Sammi is a graduate of Baker College's Veterinary Technology Program. She grew up on a dairy farm and has hands on experience with animal husbandry.  Sammi also spends time providing instruction to current students in the Veterinary Technology Program at Baker College.  Sammi and her husband Alex have two beautiful little girls, Addie & Josie, a husky named Togo, several cats and a quarter horse, Fire.  Most of Sammi's spare time is spent with her family or riding her horse.  

Brandy Licensed Veterinary Technician​

Brandy joined our team in August 2021 as our newest LVT all the way from Texas. She received her Associates in Veterinary Technology in 2006 and her Bachelors of Science in 2009 from the University of Texas. She has 2 dogs. Jetta, a German Shepherd and Lambo, a Border Collie. She loves working in surgery cases with the OVC doctors.  Brandy's spare time is spent with her children playing board games and spending time in the great outdoors. 

Jazmin Licensed Veterinary Technician

Jazmin graduated from Baker College's Veterinary Technology program in 2024 and joined our team shortly after.  Jazmin has always loved animals and knew that she wanted to work with them.  She determined that the field of veterinary medicine was meant for her, after she spent time shadowing at Oceana Veterinary Clinic.  Jazmin enjoys reading books and magna in her time.  She has two chocolate labs named Bean and Blueberry.

Fun fact: Jazmin grew up in Mexico and Spanish is her first language. 

Christine Licensed Veterinary Technician

​Christine is a Licensed Veterinary Technician and a 2017 graduate of Baker College. She enjoys helping pet owners care for their beloved pets and clinical laboratory work. Christine and her husband have multiple rescue pets including: 6 cats, 2 dogs, and a guinea pig. In her spare time, she enjoys photography, painting, music, and all things cat. Christine can easily be described as a crazy cat lady.

Dani Licensed Veterinary Technician

Dani started as an intern during the spring of 2022 and after graduation from Baker College, she joined our team as a Licensed Veterinary Technician.  She has a passion for all the felines in our practice.  Dani shares her house with 3 cats, her husband and daughter.  In her free time, she enjoys crafting and spinning yarn.

Jessica Veterinary Assistant

Jessica joined our team in 2016 as our veterinary assistant and oversees inventory management. She has a passion for helping animals and their owners.  Jessica is originally from Wisconsin, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry.  She enjoys living in West Michigan and spending her time with her goats and rescue cats as well as going to Lake Michigan with her husband, daughter, son and yellow lab, Teal.  In her spare time Jessica gardens, reads, and crafts.

Maddie Veterinary Assistant

Maddie joined our team as a student intern while she awaits acceptance into veterinary school.  She earned her Bachelor's of Science at Michigan State University in under 4 years and currently attending the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Tennessee.  Maddie enjoys spending time hiking with friends and hanging out with the family doodle dogs, Kevin and Janice.  

Fun Fact:  Maddie has an identical twin.

Leala Veterinary Assistant

Leala joined our team in the fall of 2023, bringing with her 5 years of veterinary assistant experience.  Leala is currently pursuing her degree in Veterinary Technology, with the hopes to become a Licensed Veterinary Technician in the near future.  She is passionate about advocating for both the patient and owner.  Outside of work, Leala enjoys enriching the lives of her dogs Thor, Mia, Ruger and Grace as well as her cat Smokey.  Leala also enjoys playing disk golf in her free time. 

Kayti Veterinary Assistant

Kayti joined the White Lake team in 2023 as a student intern from Montague High School.  She is currently attending college to fulfill her pre-veterinary course requirements and hopes to apply for entrance to a veterinary medicine program in the future.  Her long-term goals include becoming a Veterinary Ophthalmologist. Kayti enjoys showing animals in 4-H and currently has two dogs named Honey Rae and Dallas. 

Kaitlin Client Service Representative & Veterinary Assistant

Kaitlin joined us just in time to ring in 2021.  She moved back home to West Michigan after spending several years in North Carolina.  Kaitlin has a heart for rescue dogs and owns 4 of her own. While in NC, Kaitlin spent a great deal of time working with local animal rescues, helping pets find their forever homes.  Katlin, her husband and their daughter share their home with 4 dogs and one cat.  Kaitlin aspires to eventually pursue schooling to become a Licensed Veterinary Technician. 

​Lillie Veterinary Assistant

Lillie joined our team in 2024 as a veterinary assistant. She is currently attending Ferris State University for a pre-veterinary/animal science degree.  Her love for veterinary medicine has stemmed from being a problem solver.  She enjoys being a voice for those who cannot speak and looks forward to making a positive impact in her community.  Lillie has spent many years in 4-H showing both cattle and pigs.  You will see Lillie mostly during summer and holiday breaks.  

Fun fact:  Lillie has played the piano for 14 years!

 Podomegaly (aka Podo) Resident Cat

Podo came to us as a stray in the summer of 2010.  Despite our best efforts to find her a forever home, it became evident that Oceana Veterinary Clinic is her home, and we are her family.  You may find her lounging in the towels or sleeping in a cabinet.  She enjoys stealing ear cones from the sink and chasing them throughout the office. 

Hagrid Resident Cat

Hagrid is the resident cat at White Lake Animal Clinic.  He is best known for is lion shave haircut and his insistence of picking on dogs that are 5 times (or more) the size of him.  He often finds himself sequestered to the doctor's office when is not welcoming to our patients. Hagrid has hyperthyroid disease (an overactive thyroid) that is currently well managed on a special prescription diet. 

Fun Fact:  Hagrid is a connoisseur of coffee (when no one is looking)!
